Can Cupping Therapy Help With Keloids?
Cupping Therapy Q&A Series
Intro
Thank you for joining us for another installment of our Cupping Therapy Q&A Series. Here, we feature clinical questions submitted to us by ACE Massage Cupping Therapy practitioners. Our educators offer some brief insight on the topic so that you can expand your working knowledge on this revolutionary bodywork therapy and its benefits.
Question:
I have a friend who has several keloids on her shoulder and they have always bothered her. They don’t hurt, she just feels they are unsightly. Is it safe to work on those with the massage cupping machine? Will it help reduce their appearance if it is ok to work on them?
Answer:
Remember that keloids are the body’s inability to stop the production of adhesions once they start activating. Aggressive cupping, which can tear or cause adhesions, can also activate keloids. When I’m working with keloids, I use gentle or slower treatment to stimulate the body to start producing the chemicals to moisten, breakdown, and flush away the adhesions.
