Cupping Therapy Question and Answer Series

Intro

Thank you for joining us for another installment of our Cupping Therapy Q&A Series. Here, we feature clinical questions submitted to us by ACE Massage Cupping Therapy practitioners. Our educators offer some brief insight on the topic so that you can expand your working knowledge on this revolutionary bodywork therapy and its benefits.

Question

We just purchased some of the facial cups for our clinic and may be getting more sets for each clinic. I was trying to find out if there was a good way to clean/sterilize the inside of the bulbs for  these cups (submersion, etc.). My interest is for when not using for facial cupping but areas where body fluids could come into contact with the inside of bulbs. Trying to avoid separate cups for each patient.

Also wanted to know if anyone had experience with cupping for ectasia?  Makes sense to cup but thought there might be some experience making Tx more / faster effective.

Answer

Ectasia: milk duct blockage, discharge, or benign non-cancerous cells? There are three possible conditions under that name, so I cannot give blanket answer. If blockage, yes cups can help. If other, then I would suggest no. Ultimately, if it is recommended to massage / benefit from manipulation, then any massage cupping is also (with logical application).

As for cleaning bulbs’ inside: you may submerge to clean and then drip dry/air dry. ย There is no fast way to clean the interior, but it is necessary to keep dry when using on clients. ย Ultimately, do your best to not get fluids inside. We recently filmed a brief video going over the basics of cleaning our equipment. Please check out the video below to learn more on cleaning cupping therapy equipment.
